The Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST), previously known as the Polytechnic of Namibia, is a public university situated in Windhoek, Namibia. It offers a diverse range of programmes, from certificates to doctoral degrees, with a strong emphasis on science and technology.

As a leader in higher education in Namibia, NUST provides an extensive array of qualifications, including undergraduate and postgraduate certificates, diplomas, bachelor's degrees, honours degrees, master's degrees, and doctoral degrees across more than 60 programmes.

NUST is notable for being the first higher education institution in Namibia to establish a dedicated Quality Assurance Unit. Its programmes are accredited by several bodies, including the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) and the Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA). The university has fostered valuable partnerships with industry, the public sector, and civil society, engaging in initiatives such as curriculum advisory boards, work-integrated learning, and collaborative research.

Our Culture: Why Join NUST?

I have the honor of serving at this esteemed institution, a journey that began with the then Polytechnic of Namibia. What attracted me most was the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to developing our nation's educational landscape and empowering future generations. Nelson Mandela famously said, “There is no passion to be found playing small—settle for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” These words have inspired me to remain where my contributions impact most; so my commitment to NUST remained unwavering

Dr Smita Francis

I began my journey at NUST as a Student Assistant at the Centre for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) during my 3rd year at the Polytechnic of Namibia. After gaining experience in the public sector, I returned to NUST in 2017 as a departmental secretary and felt truly welcomed. In 2019, I was promoted to my current role, which reflects NUST’s commitment to employee growth and development. University fosters a high-performance culture, embraces diversity, and provides continuous opportunities for career advancement. Being part of NUST gives me a deep sense of job satisfaction, making it an extraordinary place to work.

Tuyenikelao Shipoke

I have dedicated over 16 years of my career to NUST, starting as a Computer Science Department tutor in the Faculty of Computing and Informatics (FCI) in 2006. I was then promoted to junior lecturer in 2010, and in 2013, I was further promoted to lecturer. I became an Associate Dean for Teaching and Learning for the Faculty in 2017. Four years later, at the beginning of 2021, I was appointed Executive Dean of FCI. I have had the privilege of serving as the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Partnerships, a position I have held since November 2021. My growth at NUST is a testament to the individual development and prosperity of what the university provides. I did my B. Tech degree to PhD while working at NUST through the staff development programme.

Prof Colin Stanley

I began my journey as an intern at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) and had the opportunity to intern at a few more organizations. However, I eventually found my way back to NUST, where it all began. This reflects the profound impact NUST has had on both my academic and professional growth. I am committed to further developing my skills and advancing my career within this dynamic environment.

Treasure Pelepele

I started my journey at NUST in 2023, as an intern in the Department of Economics, Accounting & Finance. I transitioned from a intern to a part-time employee and now appointed as a permanent employee. The reason why I chose NUST is because it provides possibilities for both professional and personal development in a nurturing setting, as well as the opportunity to contribute to a thriving, inclusive academic community centered on research, innovation, and education.

Deidré Willemse

As a staff member at the Namibia University of Science and Technology, I have had the privilege of working in an environment that fosters excellence, collaboration, and continuous growth. The university’s commitment to innovation and academic integrity is reflected not only in its student programs but also in the opportunities it provides for staff to develop professionally and contribute meaningfully to its mission.

Prof Andrew Niikondo

A Journey of Academic Excellence, Research and Innovations as Professor and UNESCO Chairholder at NUST
After serving for 24 years at one of India’s premier universities, joining NUST presented both excitement and uncertainty. While I had already established a fulfilling career, the chance to contribute to a new academic environment and explore fresh research avenues was intriguing. However, I was initially unsure about the working environment at NUST and the security situation in the country. My previous institution granted me a two-year lien to take on this new challenge, allowing me the flexibility to make an informed decision. Before the expiration of this lien, NUST management made a significant request to my previous institution, expressing their desire for me to continue my services at NUST beyond the original agreement. This was an incredibly validating moment, as it demonstrated NUST’s confidence in my abilities and their commitment to supporting my growth. Their proactive approach solidified my decision to stay and further invest in this new chapter of my career. From the outset, I met with a welcoming response, and the unwavering support from NUST management throughout my tenure has been instrumental in my success. Their openness, encouragement, and continued support for my ideas and proposals made the transition seamless. One of the most pivotal moments in my journey was being appointed as a UNESCO Chairholder on Secure High-Performance Computing for Higher Education and Research at NUST. This prestigious role has been one of my most significant academic achievements. It granted me the unique opportunity to lead high-impact research in the rapidly evolving field of secure high-performance computing, with a focus on enhancing the infrastructure and capabilities of higher education and research institutions worldwide
